Pet-Friendly Kitchen Ideas for a Happy Home

The kitchen really is the heart of the home—and if you’re a pet owner like me, you know it’s important to keep it safe, functional, and welcoming for our furry family members too. Here are a few ways to design a kitchen that works for everyone (two- and four-legged!).

1. Dedicated feeding stations
Adding a built-in spot for food and water bowls keeps things tidy and out of the way. Slide-out drawers or nooks are perfect for keeping bowls off the floor and reducing tripping hazards.

2. Durable, pet-friendly flooring
Between paw prints, spills, and scratches, kitchen floors take a beating. Materials like tile or luxury vinyl are both stylish and tough, while nonslip options help keep your pets safe when things get messy.

3. Smart storage for supplies
Just like we need a place for everything, pets do too! Setting aside a drawer or cabinet for food, treats, and supplies keeps the kitchen clutter-free—and a pull-out trash bin can keep curious pets out of trouble.

4. Safe hangout spots
Pets love being nearby, even when you’re cooking. A cozy corner bed, a built-in nook, or even a perch for cats gives them their own space without being underfoot (and keeps them out of danger when the oven or stove is in use).
